With the preservation of one of the City’s most historic structures complete, a beloved Jacksonville headquarters is now calling the Southbank home. Corner Lot and Industry West are celebrating the renovation project’s completion and Industry West’s move into the building this month with a grand opening party.
The $5.1 Million adaptive reuse development spearheaded by Corner Lot converted the three-story, 11,702-square-foot building located at 1001 Kings Avenue into a showroom and office for the online furniture company. Formerly located in the historic City of South Jacksonville (1907-1932), the circa 1912 structure boasts a blend of preserved and new architectural features including the original brick façade, a stadium seating grand staircase, and a new skylight. In addition, the new headquarters offers glass-enclosed offices, conference rooms, and kitchen and dining space.
Corner Lot and Industry West purchased the South Jacksonville City Hall in July 2021 with the corresponding goals of preserving the historic structure, retaining a local business, generating jobs, and creating a destination location in Downtown Jacksonville. Designated as a historic landmark in 2002, the building was previously in disrepair and under private ownership with no plans for improvement when Corner Lot and Industry West began considering its restoration. Bold Line Design served as the architectural firm on the project and the Opus Group managed the adaptive reuse renovation.
The historic preservation project will ensure a local corporate headquarters remains in Jacksonville, retain current jobs within our city, and create new jobs for Jacksonville residents. In addition, the development will preserve and restore a historic landmark, increase the ad valorum tax base, and generate sales tax revenue. Activation of the space will also support economic development by spurring ancillary development on the South Bank and in the Design District. The grand opening party is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on January 27, 2023 at 1001 Kings Avenue in Jacksonville.
